The name Toro Rosso is the Italian translation of the energy drinks company Red Bull, which was the owner of the team.

Scuderia Toro Rosso SpA, commonly known as Toro Rosso or by its abbreviation STR, was an Italian Formula One constructor.

It was one of two Formula One constructors owned by Austrian conglomerate company Red Bull, the other being Red Bull Racing. Toro Rosso functioned as a junior team to Red Bull Racing, with the aim of developing the skills of promising drivers for the senior team.

The constructor made its racing début in the 2006 season, moving to complete independence from its sister team in 2010. The team changed its name to Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2020 to promote parent company Red Bull's fashion label of the same name.

The Toro Rosso STR9 was the Scuderia's 2014 Formula 1 car, notable for its switch to a Renault 1.6L turbocharged V6 hybrid power unit and sophisticated Energy Recovery System. Driven by Jean-Éric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat, the STR9 was a competitive midfield car that allowed both drivers to regularly score points, with Kvyat famously scoring points in his debut race.

The car featured a distinctive high and flat nose to meet the new regulations, and its design benefited from technology sharing with its sister team, Red Bull Racing, especially in the gearbox internals.

The STR9 was powered by the Renault Energy F1-2014 engine, a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine with an integrated hybrid Energy Recovery System (ERS). The hybrid system included an Energy Store (lithium-ion battery) and Motor Generator Units to recover and supply electrical energy, contributing to the car's total horsepower.

The car featured a high and flat nose structure with a "finger-like" extension, a design that met the 2014 nose height regulations and allowed for an air inlet to cool electronics inside.

Daniil Kvyat made history at the Australian Grand Prix, becoming the youngest driver ever to score points in his Formula 1 debut at the age of 19. Toro Rosso finished the 2014 Constructors' Championship in 7th place.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR14 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by Scuderia Toro Rosso to compete in the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship. The car made its debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix.

The car was initially driven by Daniil Kvyat, and F1 debutant Alexander Albon. In August 2019, in between the Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix, it was announced that Albon would be promoted to Red Bull Racing for the remainder of the season, while Pierre Gasly would return to Toro Rosso, due to the poor performance of the Frenchman at the senior team Red Bull Racing. In addition to this Naoki Yamamoto drove during the first practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix.

The car is the second Toro Rosso car to be powered by a Honda engine, and is the first Toro Rosso car to score a podium finish since the Toro Rosso STR3 of 2008, with two podium finishes, scored by Daniil Kvyat in Germany, and Pierre Gasly in Brazil. The STR14 ended the 2019 season in 6th place in the constructor standings with 85 points, achieving their highest championship position since finishing 6th in 2008, and while also scoring the highest number of points in a single season in the team's history.

Owing to the team's rebranding to Scuderia AlphaTauri after the 2019 season, the STR14 was the last car produced by the Faenza-based team to bear the Toro Rosso name.

This was the last car to be designed by the outgoing Technical Director of the team, James Key, ahead of his departure to McLaren. The car features a number of shared components with the Red Bull RB15, with the full rear end, including the rear suspension, as well as a number of front suspension components coming from the senior team's car.
