2007-2014

Fisker Automotive was an American automobile company. It produced the Fisker Karma, which was one of the world's first production luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The company was founded in 2007 by Henrik Fisker, a Danish automobile designer.

Henrik Fisker co-founded Fisker Automotive in 2007 with Fisker Coachbuild partner Bernhard Koehler and Quantum Technologies after securing U$5.2 million investment.

Fisker was involved in the design of many premium cars such as the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, Artega GT, and BMW Z8. He also served as design director and sat on the board at Aston Martin.

Before Fisker Automotive, Fisker and Koehler left Aston Martin in 2005 to establish Fisker Coachbuild, in an attempt to revive the art of coach-building automobiles to customer specifications. The Fisker Tramonto and Latigo used chassis and power trains from Mercedes-Benz SL and BMW 6 Series automobiles. Several were purchased, but the business soon gave way to Fisker Automotive, a true automobile manufacturer.

The Tramonto is a convertible based on the Mercedes-Benz SL. The Latigo CS is a coupé based on the BMW 6 Series. Both cars were limited to 150 units, although only 15 of the Tramonto were produced and only two of the Latigo CS.

On April 14, 2008, Tesla Motors filed a lawsuit against Fisker Automotive, alleging they stole Tesla's technology and were using it to develop their own hybrid car, the Fisker Karma, which was announced at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. Tesla's suit claimed that the design work done for the Model S by Fisker Coachbuild was substandard, and that Fisker diverted its best ideas to the Karma. In early 2009, the suit was settled in Fisker's favor and Tesla was ordered to pay Fisker more than US$1.1 million in legal fees.

karma

2011-2012

The Fisker Karma is a luxury plug-in range-extended electric sports sedan produced by Fisker Automotive between 2011 and 2012. The cars were manufactured at Valmet Automotive in Finland.

Due to the very small cabin interior volume, the EPA rated the Fisker Karma as a subcompact car.  Around 1800 units were delivered in North America and Europe through December 2012. The U.S. was the leading market, with about 1600 units sold.

The Karma is a range-extended electric vehicle or series hybrid driven by a pair of 161 hp electric motors that receive power from a 20.1 kWh lithium ion battery supplied by A123 Systems and/or an engine powered generator. The Karma's two electric motors produce 201 bhp each for a quoted total of 403 hp and 1300 newton-metres of torque. The Karma features a 201 km/h top speed and is capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 6 seconds in Sport Mode according to Fisker.

Production was suspended in November 2012 when the sole battery supplier to Fisker AutomotiveA123 Systems, filed for bankruptcy following two battery recalls. Fisker Automotive was unable to carry on production of the Fisker Karma in the absence of its sole battery supplier, with about 2450 Karmas built since 2011.

A total of 2667 Fisker Karma were built before production was stopped.

sunset

2009

A two-door hardtop-convertible version of the Karma series-hybrid sedan. The Sunset shares its aluminum space-frame platform with the Karma sedan.

Fisker’s so-called Q-Drive series-hybrid powertrain consists of two electric motors (combined output: 402 horsepower and 960 pound-feet of torque) that power the rear wheels, and a 260hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The engine fires when the batteries run out of juice to extend the range up to 400 km.

surf

2011

At the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, Fisker showed the Surf, a concept model based on the Karma with a station wagon bodystyle. According to Fisker this bodystyle had been planned from the beginning of design work on the Karma. Fisker described the Surf as a "merger of a sports car with a station wagon" and said he was inspired by cars such as the Jensen Interceptor and Lamborghini Espada. In August 2012 Fisker announced that the Sunset and the Surf were both on hold, as the company had decided to focus on the planned mid-sized Atlantic sedan.

atlantic

2012

The Fisker Atlantic is a plug-in hybrid concept car first shown to the public at the New York International Auto Show in April 2012. Produced by the American car manufacturer Fisker Automotive, it was to be a smaller addition to the range to sit below the Fisker Karma. The Atlantic was scheduled to become Fisker Automotive's second production car, after plans to produce the Fisker Surf and Sunset variants of its full-size Karma were shelved earlier in 2012.

Originally called "Project Nina", the Atlantic shares the range-extender system from the larger Karma, which employs a petrol engine that can be turned on to generate electricity to recharge the batteries and power the electric drive motors. A four-cylinder BMW petrol engine serves this role in the Atlantic. The Atlantic is rear-wheel drive, with the option of four-wheel drive.

Similar in design to the Karma, the Atlantic is a 4-door, 4-seat sedan with C-pillar door handles and it is a D-segment sedan. Although the details are not finalized, Fisker has compared the vehicle to the Audi A5 and BMW 335i in terms of size and price range. The expected all-electric range is 48 km.

fisker inc.

2016-2024

Fisker Inc. is an American automotive company founded by Danish automotive designer Henrik Fisker and his wife Geeta Gupta-Fisker. Launched in 2016 and based in Manhattan Beach, California, Fisker Inc. is the successor to Fisker Automotive.

On October 14, 2020, Fisker announced its new global headquarters will be located in Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles County, California.

In March 2024, due to a net loss of over $463 million in 2023, Fisker announced that it was in financial trouble and did not have the necessary funds to remain in business. The company stated that possible deal talks with a big automaker collapsed, which led it to its bankruptcy. Again.

ocean

2023-2024

The Fisker Ocean is a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV that was manufactured and marketed by Fisker, which filed for bankruptcy protection in 2024. Released in 2023, the Ocean was intended to be the first of three models in a lineup of mass-market all-electric vehicles designed by Henrik Fisker.

The Fisker is 4.77 meters long, 1.98 meters wide and 1.63 meters high. This makes it even longer than the BMW iX3, but five centimetres lower. The Ocean's look is a bit reminiscent of that of the Range Rover Evoque, also an SUV with a low roofline. The fact that it is so long is partly due to the enormous wheelbase of 2.92 meters.

With 573 horsepower, the EV is really fast. Sprinting from 0 to 100 can be done in just 4 seconds.

As of February 2022, the company announced that it has over 30.000 reservations for the Fisker Ocean SUV and over 55.000 by August 2022. At the end of 2022, the Ocean had 63,.000 preorders. Only 10.000 were built.

pear

2025

To accompany the Ocean SUV, the ambitious folks at Fisker have announced a second, smaller SUV called the Pear. Knowing that the name stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution rather than the delicious, sweet fruit makes us cringe, but we're nonetheless impressed by its attractive design and even more attractive base price. The 2026 Pear takes style inspiration from the handsome Ocean and should deliver a decent amount of driving range.

Both rear- and all-wheel drive variants will be produced. The single motor will power the rear-wheel drive Pears while all-wheel drive ones will get a dual-motor setup. Fisker claims that the Pear will be able to hit 100 km/h in as little as 6.3 seconds. It never entered production.

ronin

2025

Fisker's halo sports car is coming into focus as the Rōnin concept. The fledgling EV automaker claims it will be going into production in the second half of 2025 as a four-door convertible. Fisker says it's aiming for high performance, both in terms of acceleration and driving range. Three electric motors are said to provide both all-wheel traction and up to 1000 horsepower. The Rōnin's battery pack is also said to be good for up to 970 km of driving per charge. That's more than the current driving-range record holder, the Lucid Air, can travel on a single charge, according to the EPA. The Rōnin will use active aerodynamics and lightweight carbon construction to save weight. We will no doubt learn more about the Rōnin closer to the car's production date, and we hope this wild-looking EV sports car will stay true to its concept.

alaska

2025

The Fisker Alaska, or the Fisker Kayak for the European market, is a full-size electric pickup truck being developed by Fisker Inc. Fisker wanted to create a vehicle that catered to the everyday needs of drivers. Alaska is designed to be a versatile vehicle, perfect for school runs, shopping trips, and daily commutes while still maintaining the functionality and efficiency of a pickup truck.

Alaska is not just about practicality, though. Fisker promises dynamic handling and responsive performance from this pickup, which he claims will be the world's most sustainable and lightest electric truck once it hits production. While final details are yet to be confirmed, Fisker anticipates a cruising range of between 370 km and 547 km, depending on the variant

There will be two battery units offered with the Alaska. A 75kWh battery will allow for 370 km of range and a 7.4-second 0-100 km/h  time. Utilising a stretched version of the Ocean SUV’s platform, there’s also a 113kWh unit which in the Alaska results in a 545-mile range and a 4-second 0-100 km/h time.

2014

Karma Automotive is a privately owned American luxury electric vehicle company founded in 2014 and now owned by Chinese conglomerate Wanxiang Group. Headquartered in Irvine, California.

In February 2014, Chinese auto-parts supplier Wanxiang Group purchased assets of Fisker Automotive  in a bankruptcy auction. These assets included designs, a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and the former Wilmington Assembly factory in Wilmington, Delaware.  Wanxiang also purchased A123 Systems following its bankruptcy declaration.

The company began building the Revero in 2016 at its factory in Moreno Valley, California, with production set to begin in late 2016. The Revero debuted on September 8, 2016. Karma planned to manufacture 3000 of the vehicles. Karma hopes to build close to 150 cars in 2018, and in the 200 to 300 range of cars in 2019 and beyond.

revero

2016-2020

The Karma Revero is a luxury plug-in hybrid sports sedan manufactured in the United States by Chinese-owned Karma Automotive. It is a revamped version of the Fisker Karma car. The first of the new production, for model year 2017, was released in September 2016.

The Revero predecessor was first introduced by Fisker Automotive as the Karma in 2012. It was the only model produced by Fisker before it went out of business in 2013.

The exterior of the Karma Revero closely resembles the Fisker Karma, keeping the design produced by Henrik Fisker.

In 2019, an updated version, the Karma Revero GT, was revealed, using a three-cylinder 1.5 liter BMW engine as a range extender instead of the older model's drive motor GM engine. The new engine configuration launched in 2020, and it used to use the same B38 engine found in the BMW i8. Included in the changes is a larger battery.

gt concept

2019

Teaming up with Pininfarina, Karma created a design concept based on the Revero GT. Karma says this vehicle is the first fruit from its partnership with the Italian design firm. The coupe retains the fundamental engineering of the Revero but takes on a new body style, panels, and interior, the automaker says. Assuming Karma is able to invest in new tooling for body panels, we think this is the styling direction it should take for the Revero GT.

The Karma GT by Pininfarina is a range-extender luxury electric hybrid coupe, based on the 2020 Revero chassis with a body by Pininfarina. It was introduced at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show.

sc1 vision concept

2019

Karma Automotive recently released an absolutely stunning new concept vehicle called the Karma SC1 Vision Concept. It’s unclear now if they have any intention of turning the concept vehicle into a production model that would be available in places like here in North Miami Beach FL. The vehicle was designed with inspiration from Southern California, both in terms of taking inspiration from the scenery there and in terms of the perfect vehicle to drive there.

Vision Concept is an easy name of which to discern the meaning. It’s a concept vehicle highlighting the brand’s future vision. Inspiration came from the PCH, or Pacific Coast Highway, which is California State Route 1.  SC1 stands for Southern California 1, a nod to this legendary stretch of road on which the Vision was designed to be driven.

The vehicle features specially-designed wing-inspired doors that lift up and forward gently before rotating around the front wheels. The space that these doors create between front axle and passenger cell inspired designers to create a secret built-in storage compartment behind the driver-side door, and even created tailor-fit luggage to utilize with it. This is just an incredible touch.

gs 6

2021-now

The Karma GS-6 is a significantly better car than the Karma Revero or original Fisker Karma. It offers more electric range from its plug-in hybrid powertrain than any other plug-in car currently on sale in America. It looks sharp and is quick and sporty, though not as much as some other luxury sedans at this price point.

It is essentially the same car as the Revero GT but at a lower price. It has a BMW-sourced turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder powertrain that utilizes an extended-ranger delivering 536 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque to the car's rear wheels.

Inside, the Karma GS-6 and Revero GT have a similar design and layout to the original Fisker Karma that debuted over a decade ago. However, the new versions have more modern features, such as a fully digital gauge cluster.

gyesera

2024

The Karma Gyesera is an electric sedan and can probably be seen as the spiritual successor to the Karma Revero. With its 5.08 meters in length, it will be a big boy, which, despite an aluminum space frame and various carbon fiber and aluminum panels, also weighs about 2,400 kilos. Here, a 590 hp electric powertrain does its job, good for a 0-60 mph sprint in about 4 seconds and a top speed of 217 km/h. The Gyesera also has a 120-kWh battery pack, again good for a range of 'at least 400 km

kaveya

2025

The Karma Kaveya is an absurdly strong sports coupe with an immense battery pack. This marked the beginning of a new era for the Fisker company, which is also looking ahead to another new model.

The roughly 4.75-metre-long sports coupé with gullwing doors has a 1180 hp electric powertrain and a battery pack of no less than 120 kWh. This technology enables it to spear from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds, reach a top speed of about 290 km/h and be able to cover at least 400 km on a full battery. There is also a less powerful Karma Kaveya in the barrel. It sticks to a single electric motor on the rear axle, good for 545 hp.

The entry-level version is expected in the course of 2025, with the dual-engine Karma Kaveya to follow in 2026.

2012

VLF Automotive is a small American-based automotive company formed in January 2016. It was founded as VL Automotive in 2012 by Bob Lutz and Gilbert Villarreal, then renamed after Henrik Fisker joined the company.

destino

The VLF Destino is a proposed automobile from American car company VLF Automotive. The Destino is a large four-door sedan and was first shown to the public at the North American International Auto Show in January 2013 as the VL Destino, and subsequently the WM Destino, before being named VLF Destino in January 2016.

The Destino is based on the Fisker Karma which ceased production in 2012. VL had obtained twenty Karma "gliders" from Fisker Automotive, and reported 100 orders by May 2013. Sales of the Destino were originally scheduled to commence in the second half of 2013, but the start was pushed back to 2014, due to the ongoing restructuring of Fisker.

The Destino retains the Karma interior and most exterior panels, but removes the Karma's electric motor and battery system, and installs a General Motors LS9 6.2-litre V-8 gasoline engine producing 638 hp and 819 N·m of torque fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmissionThe main alterations to the exterior are to the front grille design and rear bumper and trunk lid. The Destino is claimed to accelerate 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 320 km/h.

n May 2014 VL merged with WM GreenTech Automotive, and resulted in the car being renamed WM Destino by its new owners.

In January 2016, the car was renamed as the VLF Destino V8, to mark the creation of the new company VLF Automotive.

force 1

2016  50 units

The VLF Force 1 is an American sports car produced by VLF Automotive. Based on the Dodge Viper (VX I), the Force 1 was designed by automobile designer Henrik Fisker. VLF Automotive also partnered with American racing driver and Viper enthusiast Ben Keating during the development of the Force 1, leveraging his experience with the engine. The Force 1 V10 was first unveiled at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, with the production of the first run of 50 vehicles planned to begin in April 2016.

The Force 1 V10 utilizes a 8.4 liter V10 engine used in the fifth generation of the Dodge Viper. The standard output for this engine is 640 hp and 813 N⋅m of torque. VLF significantly increased the engine's output for the Force 1, and the engine was now rated at 745 hp  and 865 N⋅m of torque (an increase of 14% and 5%, respectively). This results in a top speed of 351 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.0 seconds.
