Named after blacksmiths Jacobus and Hendrik-Jan Spijker in 1880.

Spyker or Spijker was a Dutch carriage, automobile and aircraft manufacturer. In 1903, the Spyker 60 HP race-car was the world's first F4 layout, four-wheel drive car, featuring the first application of a six-cylinder engine, as well as the first four-wheel braking system.  Originally located in Hilversum, the company relocated to Trompenburg, Amsterdam in 1898. In 1898 Spyker built the Golden Coach for state ceremonial use by the Dutch house of royals.

The Spyker C8 is a sports car produced by the Dutch automaker Spyker Cars since 2000. The design takes visual cues from the 1999 Spyker Silvestris V8 concept car but with changes to the proportions.

The Spyder (later known as the Spyder SWB to distinguish it from Spyker's long-wheelbase offerings) is the original base model of the C8, debuting at the 2000 Birmingham Motor Show.  Equipped with an Audi 4.2L V8 engine making 400 PS, the Spyder has a top speed of 300 km/h.

The Spyder T is a modified version of the original C8 Spyder. This updated model, announced by Spyker at the Amsterdam Motor Show in February 2003, features a twin-turbocharged version of the Spyder's 4.2L V8, resulting in a power increase to 525 PS. To handle the new powertrain, the Spyder T features a wider track and tires over the standard Spyder, as well as suspension and aerodynamic upgrades.

The Spyker C8 Laviolette was designed and built by Maarten de Bruijn. It is the coupé version of the Spyker C8, the first model of the Dutch brand Spyker from Zeewolde. The car is named after the Belgian engineer Joseph Valentin Laviolette, who helped develop the first models of the original Spyker.

The Laviolette was the second C8 model to be developed, and was unveiled by Spyker at AutoRAI 2001. The Laviolette has the same Audi 4.2L V8 engine producing 400 PS ( as the Spyder, but replaces the Spyder's retractable soft top roof with a fixed glass canopy and an integrated roof air intake, making it the first C8 coupe.

The name 'Laviolette' is a reference to Belgian engineer Joseph Valentin Laviolette, who helped develop several Spyker race cars in the early 1900s.

55 Laviolettes were built in total.

This Spyker Double 12 R with start number 85 came to the finish at Le Mans in 2003, with Hans Hugenholtz at the wheel who proudly held the Dutch flag out of the window when crossing the finish line. For Spyker and actually for the whole of Dutch motorsport, that was a striking moment. The small and still young Spyker managed to start and finish in the world's toughest endurance race.

The Double 12R was a version of the C8 developed specifically for the 24 hours of Le Mans, using a modified Audi V8 engine with a displacement of 4.0L and power output of 487 PS. The Double 12R debuted shortly after the Laviolette at the 2001 IAA in Frankfurt.

The Spyker Squadron was the factory racing team from Dutch sportscar manufacturer Spyker Cars. The team raced in various endurance championships and non-championship races from 2002 to 2010. Daily operations were managed by Peter van Erp, the later Spyker Cars COO.

Reiter Engineering developed the Spyker C8 Double-12R to compete in the 2002 24 Hours of Le Mans GT class. The team debuted the car at the 2002 12 Hours of Sebring with Derek Hill, Peter Kox and Hans Hugenholtz. The team retired after four hours due to accident damage. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans the team retired over halfway through the race. A valve problem in the BMW engine caused the retirement.

The C8 Double-12R was again raced in 2003. Engine trouble again hampered their 12 Hours of Sebring effort. The team retired just past the half way mark. Sponsored by telecom provider Orange S.A. the team presented drivers Tom Coronel, Hans Hugenholtz and Norman Simon. Gearbox trouble prevented a strong finish, the team finished the race but was not classified as it was to far behind. The team also entered the lone race of the 2003 Le Mans Series, the 1000km of Le Mans. Norman Simon, joined by Belgian Patrick van der Schoote, finished the race in 25th place overall.

The Spyker C8 Aileron is a luxury two-door sports car, made by Spyker Automobielen N.V.. The model was introduced at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

The car is the successor to the C8 Laviolette LWB. The previous generation C8 Spykers were based on the brand's aircraft and racing history. In the aircraft industry, the propeller engine was replaced by the turbine engine. In the design of the Spyker C8 Aileron, it was also decided to have details refer to the turbine engine. New techniques such as LED lighting and a factory-fitted audio system have also been added.

At the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, Spyker debuted the C8 Aileron, described by the company as the second generation of their C8 sports car, to replace the Laviolette. 

Though still equipped with the same 4.2L Audi V8 from the Spyder and Laviolette, the Aileron features a longer, wider body, and, for the first time in the C8, an optional ZF automatic transmission.

With its 400 hp, the Aileron accelerates to 100 km/h within 4.5 seconds and its top speed is 300 km/h, but it just doesn't feel that fast. In terms of suspension, the car could easily handle 150 hp more, but the Aileron is not designed that way. For the agile, fast and sporty models, you should take a look at the short wheelbase Spykers. The Aileron is the GT of the family.

Continuing with the aviation themes of previous C8 cars, the Aileron's wheel design is inspired by jet turbine blades, a motif that can be seen throughout the car's aluminum construction and interior.

The name 'Aileron' is a reference to the flight control surface of the same name, a nod to the company's history in aviation.
