The origin of the name still remains unclear. Some say it came from the slurring of the letters “GP,” the military abbreviation for “General Purpose.” Others say it was named for a popular Popeye cartoon character named Eugene the Jeep.

Jeep is a division of FCA US LLC (formerly Chrysler Group, LLC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian-American corporation Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Now owned by stellantis. The Jeep marque has been headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, ever since Willys-Overland launched production of the first CJ or Civilian Jeep branded models there in 1945.

grand wagoneer 1978-1983

After the introduction of the Cherokee, AMC began to move the Wagoneer upmarket, and that brought high demand from a new market segment. Midway through 1978, the "Limited" was introduced, more luxuriously equipped than the earlier Super Wagoneer, offering Quadra-Trac, power disk brakes, air conditioning, power-adjustable bucket seats, power door locks, power windows, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, leather upholstery, plush carpeting, AM/FM/CB radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof rack, forged aluminum wheels, and "wood grain" trim on the body sides.

The 5.9 L AMC V8 engine was standard with a 6.6 L available at extra cost. Even though the US$10,500 suggested retail price was in luxury Cadillac and Lincoln territory, the Limited's high-level specification attracted buyers and sales were strong with a total of 28.871 Wagoneers produced in 1978, and 27.437 in 1979.

The whole notion of luxury SUVs was still almost unknown; Jeep was blazing new trails here, with this $12,000 Jeep. Sounds almost cheap, compared to today’s $50-65k SUVs, but for the times, this was a bit of a shocker for regular folks. But then regular folks weren’t buying it; the Wagoneer Limited and Grand Wagoneer quickly established themselves as having the single highest income demographic of any domestic car.

grand wagoneer 1987-1991

The Jeep Wagoneer is a luxury 4x4 produced and marketed under Jeep under successive automakers from 1962 to 1991. Described when it was introduced as a station wagon body style, the pioneering design became known in time as a "sport utility vehicle" (SUV). The Jeep Wagoneer evolved to create the luxury 4X4 market segment starting with the 1966 Super Wagoneer model.

The Wagoneer made its debut seven years before Land Rover launched its Range Rover in Great Britain, 18 years before Land Rover introduced a 4-door version, and 24 years before that marque appeared in the US.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. While some other SUVs were manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always used a unibody chassis.

The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the smaller Jeep Cherokee. The original Grand Cherokee was launched in 1992 as a 1993 model year vehicle in the luxury SUV segment.

The fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) is a mid-size crossover introduced in Spring 2010 for the 2011 model year by Jeep. It was unveiled at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The fourth-generation Grand Cherokee retains its classic Jeep styling combined with a modern and sleek body style. The 2011 Grand Cherokee has won 30 awards for off-road capability, luxury, value, best-in-class, and safety, making it the most awarded SUV ever.

It was equiped with a 6.4 L HEMI engine that produces 470 hp. For 2014, "SRT8" was no longer a model of Jeep, but a separate corporate entity.
