Fsr is an abreviation of Fabryka Samochodów Rolniczych.

The Fabryka Samochodów Rolniczych from Poznan was a factory for agricultural vehicles. In 1973 or 1974 the production of passenger cars began . The brand name was Tarpan , named after a wild horse . Production ended in 1996 when Fabryka Samochodów Rolniczych was dissolved. The vehicles were off-road vehicles that were also suitable as utility vehicles in agriculture. One source calls the first model the Tarpan 4x4 .

The FSR Tarpan was a van and light truck produced in Poznań, Poland between 1973 and 1994. It was exported to Greece and Iran. The first prototype was presented in 1972. In December 1972 25 first vehicles left the assembly plant. The mass production began in 1973 after the necessary modifications.

There were four production models: 233, 237, 237D and 239D which all had small details differentiating them. With the exception of models 237D and 239D, both of which had diesel engines, every example of FSR Tarpan had either a letter F or S before its model number. The letter F meant that the vehicle in question was originally powered by the 1.5 l engine from Polski Fiat 125p while letter S meant that the vehicle in question was originally powered by the S-21 engine from FSC Żuk.

8,533 vehicles were built between 1973 and 1976. In 1977 the number rose to over 5000 vehicles and in 1978 to over 6000 vehicles. In the mid-1980s, around 4,000 vehicles were built annually.

Daewoo Motor Polska acquired a license or parts of the company in March 1996 and continued production without using the Tarpan brand name .
