Force India Formula One Team Limited, commonly known as Force India and later Sahara Force India, was a Formula One racing team and constructor based in Silverstone, United Kingdom, with an Indian licence. The team was formed in October 2007 when a consortium led by Indian businessman Vijay Mallya and Dutch businessman Michiel Mol bought the Spyker F1 team for €88 million.

The team's origins stemmed from the Jordan Grand Prix team, which entered Formula One racing in 1991 based at the Silverstone circuit. Jordan enjoyed many years in Formula One but, like many of the smaller teams in the 2000s, financial problems meant the team's performance dried up, and team owner Eddie Jordan sold the team to the Midland Group in early 2005.

The Midland owned team renamed Midland F1 Racing in 2006 spent two seasons at the back of grid, before owner Alex Shnaider sold the team to Spyker Cars midway through the 2006 season.

Spyker F1 scored a point in 2007 and briefly led the European Grand Prix; despite this, the team once again hit financing issues, and was sold on to Indian businessman Vijay Mallya, then chairman of the United Breweries Group and Michiel Mol, Spyker's Formula One Director. The team, bought for €88 million, was renamed as the Force India Formula One Team for the 2008 season.

2008

The Spyker F8-VII (subsequently known as the Force India VJM01) was a Formula One car, constructed by Spyker F1 that competed in the 2007 Formula One World Championship. A "B Specification" car named the Spyker F8-VIIB was launched at the Italian Grand Prix and used for the remainder of the 2007 season. The engine of Spyker F8-VII car was Ferrari 056 despite the team opted for 2006-spec engine due to cost reasons.

For the 2008 World Championship, Force India used a slightly modified version of the F8-VIIB, called the Force India VJM01 named after team owners Vijay Mallya, Jan Mol and Michiel Mol.

The team continued to use 2007-specification Ferrari engines due to cost reasons. Although the team came close to a fourth-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix, points were not forthcoming, and Force India ended the season at the bottom of the Constructors' Championship standings, only ahead of Super Aguri which had withdrawn from the championship after four races.

The F8-VII was the only car constructed by Spyker F1 in their own right after their take-over from the struggling Midland F1 team part way through 2006.

2009

The Force India VJM02 was Force India's Formula One car for the 2009 Formula One season.  The Northamptonshire-based team's car is decorated in the colours of the Indian flag, and was driven by the same drivers as in 2008 – Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil.

The VJM02 was the first British-based foreign F1 car to utilize ExxonMobil fuel and lubricants as Mobil brand, in which Esso and Exxon was used on Red Bull RB13 8 years later along with Mobil from 2017, as they are currently ExxonMobil brands from 1999. The VJM02 was also the first Mercedes-powered non-McLaren Formula One car since the Sauber C13 in the 1994 season.

The VJM02 had the option to feature a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which allows energy which would otherwise be wasted while braking to be re-used in set amounts per lap, via a boost button on the driver's steering wheel. The energy is stored in either a battery or a flywheel.

The VJM02’s performance was almost as poor as last season’s, only getting two points finishes, which ended up with them 9th on the constructors championship.

2011

The Force India VJM04 is a Formula One racing car developed by Force India for the 2011 Formula One season, the fourth car the team has made since entering the sport in 2008. The car was driven by long-time Force India driver Adrian Sutil and 2010 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters champion Paul di Resta. The car was launched online on 8 February 2011. The car took the team into 6th in the Constructors' Championship with 69 points by the end of the season.

Ahead of the Korean Grand Prix, Sahara India Pariwar had purchased a 42.5% stake from the team as a co-ownership from the team principal, Vijay Mallya.

2013

The Force India VJM06 is a Formula One racing car designed and built by the Force India team for use in the 2013 season where it was driven by Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil, who returned to the team after spending the 2012 season out of the sport.  It was the last British-based F1 foreign car to utilize ExxonMobil fuels and lubricants before its use for Red Bull RB13 in 2017.

Di Resta achieved his best result of the season in fourth at Bahrain Grand Prix, while Sutil achieved fifth in Monaco Grand Prix. Force India would finish the season in sixth in the World Constructors' Championship with 77 points.

The livery is almost identical to its predecessor with a minor changes. This was the final year the team used white paint as a base colour. Their title sponsor, Sahara India Pariwar returned for the second year along with renewed sponsors; Kingfisher, Royal Challenge, Whyte & Mackay and Airbus. Medion once again left the team as Sutil moved to Sauber the following season.

2015

The Force India VJM08 is a Formula One racing car which Force India used to compete in the 2015 Formula One season. It was driven by Sergio Pérez and Le Mans winner Nico Hülkenberg.

The car's livery was first presented at an event in the Museo Soumaya in Mexico City on 21 January 2015, albeit using a modified chassis from a previous car instead of the VJM08 itself.

The team used a new car development model for the 2015 season. They aimed to increase the car's performance as the season went on through the introduction of a B-spec car and several other upgrades later in the season. For the British Grand Prix, Force India introduced a B-spec version of the car, featuring a distinct shorter nose with two holes in it. Initially, it was questioned whether the new nose complied with the FIA regulations, which did not allow vented noses.

Ultimately, the team's upturn in form helped them achieve fifth place in the Constructor's Championship, their best season in its history at that point, despite scoring 19 fewer points than with its predecessor, the VJM07.

The livery was radically changed by removing the shade of white and retaining the black and silver livery.

2017

The Force India VJM10 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by Force India to compete during the 2017 Formula One season. The car was driven by Sergio Pérez and Esteban Ocon, who joined the team after Nico Hülkenberg left the team at the end of the 2016 season. It made its competitive début at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix.

Initially, during pre-season testing the team struggled due to an overweight car and was mired in a very tight midfield battle which included Toro Rosso, Haas, Renault and the Williams team. The first 5 races saw both drivers record double points finishes, the only team to do so in 2017.

Although Force India finished 4th in the constructors' standings for the second year in a row, they did score more points then in 2016, with 187, making the 2017 season points tally the highest in the team's history.

The VJM10 was originally painted in greyish silver livery during the pre-season testing. When the car was launched, it was drastically changed into pink courtesy from the water treatment company BWT.

The team was put into administration during the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2018. A consortium led by Lawrence Stroll ended up acquiring the team's assets.

Approaching the Belgian Grand Prix, the situation regarding the team's ability to compete remained unsure, as in order to buy the shares in the team, the consortium needed agreement with the creditors of the parent company - including 13 banks which held a freezing order over the assets of the parent. Agreement could not be reached in time, so the consortium was unable to buy the shares, and was limited to purchasing only the assets of the team. The team then had to participate in the F1 Championship under a new name, thus the adding of "Racing Point" to the team's name. The FIA excluded the former Force India entry from the championship "due to its inability to complete the season", and welcomed the new legal entity, Racing Point Force India F1 Team, that was allowed to race, but not to keep any points of the old team. This signaled the end of the constructor that had been founded for the 2008 season.

2018

The Force India VJM11 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by Force India to compete during the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship. The car was driven by Sergio Pérez and Esteban Ocon, and made its competitive début at the 2018 Australian Grand Prix. Following the bankruptcy of the Force India team, the Force India assets were purchased—including the VJM11 design and built cars—by a new team, Racing Point Force India, who continued to enter the VJM11 under the Force India name.

The VJM11 originally scored 59 points up until the Belgian Grand Prix before the team's championship points were voided following the bankruptcy of Force India and the subsequent purchase by Racing Point Force India.

Under the Racing Point Force India banner the VJM11 accumulated 52 points and finished 7th in the constructors' championship at the end of the season.

The VJM11 was painted with a white base colour and pink livery; the pink tone was brighter than previously. Despite the team being taken over by a new ownership, no changes were made to the livery itself.
